Kerrie Lester was born in Sydney and lived and worked from her North Shore studio since 1989. Lester was renowned for her distinctive stitched linen paintings, offering a unique perspective of her immediate environment. Her scenes depict fleeting moments in everyday life.
Lester had held over 33 solo exhibitions spanning over a 38 year career, her first held immediately after graduating from art school.Â
Her distinctive oil paintings have been included in the Sydney Biennale as well as being held in numerous public galleries and prestigious corporate and government collections, including the National Gallery of Australia, the National Portrait Gallery, BHP Australia and the Children’s Hospital, Westmead. Overseas her works have been exhibited in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Australian Embassy, Paris.
Lester has been a finalist for fourteen consecutive years in the prestigious Archibald Competition, winning the Packer's Prize in 1979, as well as receiving a number of major art awards and commissions. Her work is represented in many public, corporate and private art collections across Australia and abroad.
