Biography:
John Bokor is a contemporary Australian-born artist and graduated from the National Art School in 1993 with a diploma in Painting, and once again in 2000 with a Bachelor of Fine Art.
Bokor has had 25 solo exhibitions in both commercial and regional galleries across Australia. His work has been featured in numerous group exhibitions including The Dobell Drawing Prize at the National Art School, 2023 and 2021; the Sulman Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, 2021; Muswellbrook Art Prize at Muswellbrook Regional Art Gallery, 2020; ‘Baked Goods’ at the University City Arts League in Philadelphia, 2016; ‘Planting Dreams’ at the State Library of NSW in Sydney, 2016; and ‘Still Life’ at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, in 2013.
In 2015, Bokor won the Kings School Art Prize and the Muswellbrook Art Prize Drawing Section at Muswellbrook Regional Gallery. In 2012, Bokor won the NSW Parliament Plein Air Painting Prize and had four large drawings purchased by the Art Gallery New South Wales. In 2013, he won both the Wilson Art Award and the Eutick Memorial Still Life Award, and in 2016 he won the drawing section of the Muswellbrook Art Prize and the Kings School Art Prize.
Bokor’s work is held in many public and private collections, including the Art Gallery of Ballarat, the Art Gallery of NSW, the Australian Club, the State Library of NSW, the Kings School Art Collection, NSW Parliament Art Collection and several university collections around Australia.
John lives and works in Bulli, south of Sydney.
