Patricia Kamara was born circa early 1960s and her country is Anerara, which is near the Utopia Aboriginal homelands region of the Northern Territory. Patricia is related to the talented Petyarre family, namely acclaimed artists Kathleen and Gloria.
Patricia paints in the Bush Medicine style, depicting leaves, flowers and roots of the medicinal plants that have been used by Aboriginal peoples for tens of thousands of years for a variety of healing purposes.
Patricia’s long, lyrical brush strokes are used to create depth and movement on the canvas as she depicts the medicine leaves drying in the sun.
Patricia also paints other aspects of women's culture, such as the Pencil Yam, Body Paint and Women's Ceremony designs. The pencil yams are depicted by straight, coloured strokes and the white dots represent the seeds of the yam.
